Time Management Struggles in Teens

Teen time management problems often stem from a combination of factors such as procrastination, overscheduling, excessive screen time, and difficulty prioritizing tasks. These issues can lead to being overwhelmed and stressed, and ultimately declining academic performance. Teens may also struggle with balancing schoolwork, extracurricular activities, social obligations, and personal time, resulting in a lack of effective time allocation and increased anxiety about deadlines and responsibilities. Compounding the issue, many teens choose to avoid work and tasks as a result of anxiety, which leads to additional workload and pressure from teachers and parents. Diagnoses including ADHD can also cause executive functioning difficulties leading to poor time management.

I work closely with teens to develop a realistic narrative surrounding their time management struggles, free of blame and emphasizing an internal locus of control.
